DIRK WINKEL

 

Dirk Winkel is a Berlin-based product designer specialising in lighting and furniture design. After studying at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and completing an MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London, he founded his own design studio in Berlin in 2011.

His work is guided by the idea of formal purism as a principle of sustainability, combining reduced aesthetics with technical precision and a strong understanding of materials and production. Winkel’s practice explores the possibilities of industrial manufacturing, new materials and contemporary approaches to light, resulting in functional objects defined by clarity, innovation and lasting relevance.

Alongside his design practice, Winkel has taught Design Construction at the UdK Berlin since 2012. His work has been exhibited internationally and recognised with numerous design awards, reflecting his established position within contemporary German product design.
